HARROGATE, TN. - The Davis and Elkins College Softball team fell to Lincoln Memorial 11-3 and beat Mercyhurst University 16-1 today for a non-conference doubleheader.

In the first contest of the day, no runs were scored in the first inning. In the second one, however, the Senators hit five balls and managed to score three runs when Katie Mason doubled to left-center, scoring
Haley Grindstaff, unearned, and
Payton Maddy. In the following play,
Kelsie Millner singled up the middle, scoring
Jade Allee, making it 3-0.

However, in the bottom of the second, the home team tied the game with a hit that resulted in three runs batted in.

After a scoreless third inning, Lincoln Memorial found six runs in the bottom of the fourth, and one in the fifth to make it 10-3.

D&E had a couple of hits but couldn't score any more runs. The hosts would score another one in the bottom of the sixth to make it 11-3 and end the first contest of the day.

Ava Willis,
Katelyn Cobb, and
Haley Grindstaff pitched for the Senators. Cobb had one strikeout, and Grindstaff got two for Davis and Elkins.

The second contest of the day, against Mercyhurst, had a better outcome for the Senators.

Even though the Senators started behind on the scoreboard, conceding a run to Mercyhust in the top of the first inning, D&E would come back and score five in the bottom of the third.

Alyssa Cairns singled up the middle, scoring
Kelsie Millner. After that,
Brittany Wade went one and doubled to left center, scoring both Cairns and
Jordan Crawford.

Before the end of the inning,
Rhetta Persinger homered to left field, scoring
Brittany Wade, increasing D&E's advantage to 5-1.

In the bottom of the fourth inning, the Senators score amazing 11 runs, starting when Wade singled down the left field line, scoring Crawford.
Ryn Boelter would single through the right side, scoring both Wade and Cairns.

Amy Fincham contributed flying out to center field, scoring Persinger. Katie Mason doubled to left center, scoring
Kailynn Parks, making it 10-1. Crawford went on and increased the Senators' advantage when she doubled to left center, scoring both Manson and Allee.

Cairns flied out to center field, scoring Millner. Wade doubled to left center, scoring Crawford. Persinger singled to left field, scoring Maddy. Parks reached first on a throwing error by the 3rd base and finished it up for the Senators scoring Persinger and making it 16-1.
