BIG RAPIDS, Mich. - Ferris State pulled away in the second half for an 85-58 win over Davis & Elkins on Saturday afternoon in the Senators season opener. D&E went into the locker room down just 37-27, but had no answers for a sharpshooting Bulldogs team in the final frame.
Kyle Leslie poured in a team-high 14 points on 5-of-6 shooting from the floor and grabbed five rebounds in his collegiate debut for Davis & Elkins (0-1). The duo of Walt Kelser (28 points) and Deng Reng (11) powered Ferris State (4-0) offensively, who stays unbeaten on the young 2019-20 season.
Donte Doleman logged 12 points in 28 minutes of action, including two three-pointers, while
Erkam Kiris led the Senators with seven rebounds.
The Senators scored 32 points off their bench for Head Coach
Daniel Mondragon, who played 10 players on Saturday in his collegiate coaching debut. The Senators shot 50 percent from behind the arc in the first half, finishing 8-of-23 (34.8%) for the game.
Tyler Twyman and
Terrance Lakes led D&E with three assists apiece.
Davis & Elkins wraps up its early-season trip to Michigan tomorrow afternoon against Grand Valley State.
