ALLENDALE, Mich. – Senior
Erkam Kiris recorded a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds on Sunday afternoon, but Davis & Elkins could not overcome its double-digit halftime deficit in an 84-68 defeat to Grand Valley State.
Kiris was one of three players to score in double-figures for the Senators, led by
Myles Monroe, who racked up 18 points in his first extended action of the season.
Donte Doleman added 14 points for Davis & Elkins, while
Patrick Wilburn chipped in eight points in 21 minutes off the bench.
Davis & Elkins (0-2) faced a 45-33 deficit at the half, but a three-pointer from
Teemu Tumanoff at the 15:03 mark in the second half made it a seven-point game at 50-43. That was as close as the Senators would get, however, as Grand Valley State (2-0) extended its lead to nine on the next trip down the floor and back to double digits less than one minute later.
Grand Valley State made the most of its offensive chances, converting at a 47.5% clip from the floor. D&E shot 43.1% from the field for the game, but the Lakers held a 19-9 advantage in made free throws.
