CHARLESTON, W. Va. – Davis & Elkins dropped a hard-fought road contest, 3-1, to Charleston (W. Va.) on Friday night in Mountain East Conference play.
Kaitlyn LaCour led the offensive charge again for Davis & Elkins (17-9, 10-5 MEC) with 17 kills and two aces.
Raleighanne Weaver, who was superb in the second set, had four block assists for the Senators.
Solei Daniels added 11 kills and
Sarah Warren passed out 46 assists along with four kills.
Charleston (11-20, 6-9 MEC) had three players with double-digit kills, led by a match-high 20 for Rachel Phalen. The Golden Eagles hit .289 as a team and limited the Senators to a .178 hitting percentage.
D&E picked up a win in the second set of a fast-paced match and made a charge in the middle of the fourth set, but could not overcome a potent Charleston offense on Friday.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Set One: Charleston earned an extended set victory to open the match, winning 26-24. The Golden Eagles used a 6-1 run late in the set to pick up the win.
- Set Two: D&E used a 3-0 run, highlighted by kills from LaCour and Mya Mintschenko, as part of a larger 6-1 run to earn its lone set win of the evening. Essence West added an ace in the scoring surge.
- Set Three: A 9-2 run in the middle of the set pushed the Golden Eagles lead to 16-6. D&E rattled off an 8-2 run to make it 18-14, capped by an ace from West. Lillie Mueller, Daniels and Warren each had a kill as D&E scored three of the final four points of the set, but the Godlen Eagles had built their lead enough for the 25-20 victory.
- Set Four: Davis & Elkins won four points in a row, battling back from a 15-9 deficit to make it 15-13 and force a Golden Eagles timeout. Charleston answered back, holding a narrow lead until the end of the set.
MATCH NOTES
- Kelly Smith did not record an ace tonight, but helped key the Senators comeback effort in the fourth set. She posted 11 digs as well, one of three players with double figure digs in the match for the Senators.
- With 46 assists, Sarah Warren had her seventh match with 40 or more assists.
- West had her sixth game of the season with 10 or more digs, including three of the past four matches.
- Charleston picked up a much-needed victory, keeping the Golden Eagles in eighth place in the MEC standings. The Senators picked up a sweep against Charleston earlier in the season, notching the win on September 28 in Elkins.
