ELKINS – The Davis & Elkins College Men's Soccer team fell in a heartbreaker Thursday night at Nuttall Field, losing to Trevecca Nazarene 3-2 in the Senators' Great Midwest home opener.
The Senators took a lead with a 42
nd minute penalty kick from
Carlos Cruza, his second goal in as many games.
Then the Senators added to their lead with
Cesar Matteo Ghezzi's second goal of the season, as he doubled the hosts lead in the 57
th minute.
However, the visitors were able to score three goals in the last eight minutes to steal the victory, capitalizing on several mistakes from Davis & Elkins.
Armando Molina scored a pair of goals 49 seconds apart in the 83
rd and 84
th minute to tie the game.
Then with 55 seconds left, Ethan Keogh scored the game winner.
The Senators outshot Trevecca 15-10 in the game, but the Trojans had 11 corners to just four for the Senators.
Davis & Elkins will return to action on Saturday, as the Senators host Kentucky Wesleyan. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m. at Nuttall Field
