FINDLAY, Ohio – The Davis & Elkins College Women's Tennis team picked up a crucial victory in Great Midwest Athletic Conference play, defeating Findlay 5-4 Saturday afternoon.
The Senators started off by taking two of the three doubles matches, which proved to be crucial as the match played on.
In No. 3 doubles,
Amanda Fewster and
Karin Rosario quickly defeated Hannah Essick and Kristi McDonald 8-1 to earn the first point of the match.
Laura Fermosel and
Elise Simon would follow it up shortly thereafter with an 8-4 victory over Samantha Sweet and Eliza Kirov to take the No. 1 doubles point.
Once singles started, Simon and
Ester Bolmenas earned the first two of three points the Senators needed to secure the match. Simon won No. 2 singles with a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Sheridan McLean.
Bolmenas won the No. 4 match 7-6, 6-1, defeating Mikaela Hindenlang.
After the Oilers tied things up at 4-4, the final point came down to the No. 6 singles match.
Karin Rosario jumped out to a 6-1 victory in set one and then secured the victory for D&E with a 6-4 win in set two.
The Senators will return to action on Sunday, traveling to Michigan to take on Hillsdale. The match is set for a 10 a.m. start.
