PAINESVILLE, Ohio – The Davis & Elkins College Women's Lacrosse team fell to Lake Erie College 20-2 Sunday afternoon in Great Midwest Athletic Conference play.
The Senators were unable to keep pace with the Storm, as the hosts jumped out to an 8-0 lead in the first nine minutes.
Davis & Elkins cut the run by Lake Erie with
Gabby Fagan's goal just passed 10 minutes into the first half. The goal was Fagan's team-leading 12th goal of the season.
Lake Erie then responded with another eight-goal run to close out the first half and take a 16-1 lead into the break.
Coming out of halftime,
Savannah Stanford scored the Senators only other goal of the contest on an unassisted effort 52 seconds into the period.
Lake Erie would score four unanswered to end the contest.
The Senators were outshot 34-9 in the game and the Senators were only able to place five shots on target.
Lake Erie led the ground balls portion of the contest 28-15 and draw controls 14-9.
Samantha Cozzolino led the Senators with six ground balls. Fagan finished with two and
Casey Johnson had the other one for D&E.
Cozzolino, Johnson and
Sonja Skinner led field players for the Senators with two ground balls each.
Davis & Elkins will return to action on Tuesday as the Senators return to Nuttall Field to face Ohio Valley. The game is set for an opening draw at 7 p.m.
