Women's Lacrosse Falls to Thiel In Non-Conference Play

GREENVILLE, Pa. - The Davis & Elkins College Women's Lacrosse team fell to Thiel College 14-10 Saturday night in non-conference action.
 
The Senators held a 9-7 lead but could not hold back a late surge from the hosts, who outscored D&E 7-1 over the final 12 minutes.
 
Savannah Stanford gave the Senators the lead 1:31 into the contest, but Theil quickly answered back to tie things at one.
 
Tonisha Washington and Gabby Fagan then scored for the Senators to put D&E ahead 3-1 six minutes in to the game.
 
Thiel would respond with four straight goals and five of the next six to close out the first half with a 6-4 lead.
 
Fagan scored her second of the game to close out the Senators' scoring in the first half.
 
Just over a minute into the second half, Fagan scored again to give herself a hat trick and to bring D&E to within one of Thiel.
 
Casey Johnson then scored two straight goals 80 seconds apart to tie the game and then give D&E the lead 7-6.
 
After the hosts tied the game at seven, Johnson completed her hat trick putting D&E ahead 8-7.
 
Fagan then scored he fourth of the game to put the Senators ahead 9-7 with 17:10 remaining.
 
After Thiel scored seven straight, Kaitlin Howell closed out the scoring in the contest with D&E's final goal of the game.
 
Ebele De La Bay Coffie made 11 saves in the game for the Senators.
 
The Senators were outshot 34-33 in the game and lost the draw control battle 18-8.
 
The Senators did force Thiel into 20 turnovers, while committing just eight turnovers in the game.
 
Davis & Elkins will return to action on Sunday, taking on Findlay in the season finale. The game is set for a 3 p.m. start in Ohio.
