Women's Lacrosse's Comeback Bid Falls Short vs AB

ELKINS, W.Va. - The Davis & Elkins College Women's Lacrosse team dropped a Great Midwest Athletic Conference battle on Senior night against Alderson Broaddus as their comeback bid fell short in a 14-11 loss at Nuttall Field.

Davis & Elkins had strong performances with Gabby Fagan scoring six goals and Samantha Cozzolino five, but was outscored by the Battlers 7-2 in the first half and the Senators were unable to overcome the deficit.

Even though both teams were making big pressure to break into each other's defense, the first 15 minutes of the game only had two goals, one for each side.

The visitors started by taking the lead three minutes into the game and held the lead until Cozzolino found her way in, 11 minutes later, to score the equalizer with 15:23 left on the clock, on an unassisted effort.

The visitors would run off with six of the next seven goals to take a 5-goal lead into the break.

Davis & Elkins would score once more before the end of the first half with Gabby Fagan, assisted by Kaitlin Howell, scoring with 5:04 left in the half.

After the break, the Senators struck first with another goal from Fagan, this time from a free position shot less than a minute into the second period.

The Battlers got back into their scoring form with three consecutive goals to make it 10-3.

However, the Senators would go on a run of their ow, fueling a comeback did from the hosts. Cozzolino would score three-straight goals to cut the deficit to 10-6 with 220:42 remaining.

Fagan would then continue the run, scoring her third of the game, followed by another goal from Cozzolino.

After a timeout, D&E got one more on the scoreboard as Fagan scored with an assist from Cozzolino to cut the difference to 10-9.

However, it would be as close as the Senators would get, as Alderson Broaddus would go on its own run, scoring three more goals to jump ahead 13-9.

Fagan broke into AB's defense twice more with goals at eight and five minutes remaining.

Two minutes later, the Senators went a player down, conceding the last goal of the game with the disadvantage.

Senators goalie Ebele De La Bay Coffie made 14 saves in 60 minutes and also had three ground balls, along with Shaw.

Casey Johnson and Fagan led the way for D&E in Draw Controls, each recording three.

Davis & Elkins returns to action for the season finale in Ohio on Sunday. The Senators go up against Findlay at 3:00 p.m.
