PHILIPPI, W.Va. – The Davis & Elkins College Men's Lacrosse team closed out it's Great Midwest Athletic Conference schedule with 11-7 defeat to Alderson Broaddus Wednesday night.
The Senators jumped out to a 2-0 lead with goals from
Matthew Dyck and
Haydn Sitler, assisted by Dyck, in the first 8:25 of the contest.
The hosts would respond with the next three goals, starting a back-and-forth run that carried on through the remainder of the first half.
Trailing 3-2,
Aidan O'Dwyer tied things up with 9:05 remaining in the first half on an assist from Sitler.
Sitler then fed the other half of the O'Dwyer brothers, as he assisted
Matt O'Dwyer on his goal at 7:51 to give D&E a 4-3 lead.
Alderson Broaddus would tie the game at 4 before Sitler scored on an unassisted effort to put the Senators back in front.
However, Alderson Broaddus would score with 47 seconds remaining in the half to tie the game at 5 heading into the break.
The hosts would pick up where they left off and scored five straight to begin the second half, including all four goals in the third quarter, to take a commanding 10-5 lead.
The Senators would answer back with a goal from
Ian Nelson and
Aidan O'Dwyer's second of the game in the fourth, but it wouldn't be enough to close down the gap.
Statistically, the game was almost identical with D&E lead in shots 39-38. The Senators had 13 turnovers to Alderson Broaddus' 12 in the game and both teams won 11 faceoffs each. AB also won 54 ground balls to D&E's 53.
The Senators will return to action on Saturday, as Davis & Elkins travels to Knoxville, Tennessee to take on Lincoln Memorial University in the season finale. The contest is set for a 12:30 p.m. start at Knoxville Catholic High School.
