Women's Lacrosse Dominates Sweet Briar In 18-4 Victory

SWEET BRIAR, Va. – The Davis & Elkins College Women's Lacrosse team matched a school record for goals in a game with the Senators third win in four games, defeating Sweet Briar College 18-4 in non-conference action Tuesday afternoon.
 
The Senators got things started right away, as Savannah Stanford scored just 19 seconds in to put the Senators ahead.
 
33 second later, Samantha Cozzolino doubled the lead with another unassisted effort.
 
Gabby Fagan, Kathleen Shaw and Tonisha Washington all joined the scoring party for the Senators, who went up 5-0 less than six minutes into the contest.
 
After an eight-minute drought, the hosts scored their first goal, but Davis & Elkins immediately responded as Fagan scored her second of the contest.
 
Sweet Briar scored a few minutes later and the Senators responded quickly again, this time coming on Cozzolino's second goal of the game.
 
Gabby Fagan would score a minute later as the Senators went on another mini run, as Stanford and Washington both grabbed their second goals of the game to go up 10-2.
 
The hosts would capitalize with the woman-advantage situation, scoring with 6:51 remaining, but the Senators closed out the half with a four-goal run.
 
Fagan would score her fourth with 3:53 remaining and Shaw, Sonja Skinner and Stanford closed out the half with tallies.
 
Coming out of the halftime break, Sweet Briar scored 38 seconds in, but it would be the final effort the Senators would allow on target by the Vixens in the game.
 
Cozzolino would grab two more goals in the second half, followed by Fagan's fifth goal of the contest.
 
Ashley Lynch would close out the game with her first career goal for the Senators with 3:58 remaining in the contest.
 
The Senators outshot Sweet Briar 33-11 and the hosts would generate just seven total shots on goal in the game.
 
Davis & Ekins also forced 22 turnovers by Sweet Briar in the game, while conceding just eight turnovers.
 
The Senators will return to action on Friday, taking on Walsh at Nuttall Field. The game is set for a 6 p.m. start.
