ELKINS - The Davis & Elkins College Women's Tennis team swept through Kentucky Wesleyan and defeated Cedarville 8-1 to close out the Great Midwest Athletic Conference schedule on the final weekend of the regular season.
The Senators made relatively quick work of Kentucky Wesleyan, with the Senators only being threatened in one of the 15 total sets played.
After sweeping through doubles, several Senators made quick work of their opponents in singles action, including
Laura Vargas, who defeated Liz Greer 6-1, 6-0.
Elise Simon and
Kelsie Roby both picked up 6-0, 6-1 victories over Liz Clayton and Amy Gossett, respectively.
In a pivotal battle against Cedarville with potential G-MAC Tournament implications on the line, the Senators jumped out to a big 3-0 start with the closest victory coming in an 8-4 battle in the No. 3 match where
Karin Rosario and
Amanda Fewster defeated Olivia Ancil and Deanna Whalen.
Rosario and Roby needed tiebreakers to clinch their singles sets, but Simon Vargas and
Ester Bolmenas all won in straight sets to secure the victory and a postseason berth.
Davis & Elkins will now wait for final seeding in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Tournament, which starts April 20 in Owensboro, Kentucky.
