OWENSBORO, Ky. – The Davis & Elkins College Women's Tennis team fell to Walsh University 5-2 on Friday in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Semifinals to see its season come to a close.
The Senators started strong, defeating the Cavaliers in two of the three doubles matches.
Laura Fermosel and
Elise Simon picked up a big victory in No. 1 doubles. The duo remained undefeated in conference competition, winning 8-4 over Mercedes Fernandez and Clara Drasch.
Karin Rosario and
Amanda Fewster also picked up a doubles victory, winning the No. 3 doubles match. The duo defeated Sofia Khairutdinova and Parvanee Karimpour 8-4 to help the Senators to a 2-1 lead heading into singles action.
The Senators weren't able to carry the momentum into singles, as Walsh picked up four-straight victories to clinch the match.
Three of the four defeats were close matches. The first of the three to finish was
Ester Bolmenas in No. 4 singles, as she fell to Katarina Raszum 6-3, 6-4.
Kelsie Roby and
Karin Rosario also had tight battles. Roby fell in No.5 singles to Khairutdinova 6-2, 7-5. Rosario fell in the deciding match to Karimpour 6-4, 7-5.
With the loss, the Senators season comes to a close. The Senators finish the season at 7-9 with a 5-2 mark in G-MAC play that earned D&E the No. 3 seed in the postseason tournament.
