VIENNA, W.Va. – The Davis & Elkins College Women's Lacrosse team picked up its second straight victory Thursday night with an 8-6 win over Ohio Valley in Great Midwest Athletic Conference play.
Two days after the Senators defeated the Fighting Scots for their first win of the season, Davis & Elkins played Ohio Valley again and set a new program high for wins in a season.
The hosts would score first on the afternoon, but Davis & Elkins responded with
Samantha Cozzolino's first of four goals in the contest to tie things up.
Twice more Ohio Valley would take the lead, with Kaitlyn Howell scoring to tie the game up at 2-2 and then Cozzolino scored to tie the game up at 3-3.
Gabby Fagan gave the Senators the lead halfway through the first half with her first goal of the game on an assist from Cozzolino.
Ohio Valley would respond right away to tie the game up, but Cozzolino completed a first half hat trick with 1:40 left in the first to give D&E a 5-4 lead going into the break.
Fagan put the Senators up two with the first goal of the second half and her second of the game.
Ohio Valley would cut the game to one, but Cozzolino scored a few minutes later and then assisted on Howell's second goal of the contest to give the Senators a 3-goal lead.
Ohio Valley would score once more but were unable to close the gap any further on Davis & Elkins.
Ebele De Lay Bay Coffie made seven saves in the contest for her second win of the season.
Both teams fired 24 shots towards goal, but the Senators put 19 of their efforts on targets while the hosts were only able to fire 13 on target.
The Senators will remain on the road for their second of three straight away from home on Saturday. Davis & Elkins will face Walsh with a 12 p.m. start in Ohio.
