Softball Sweeps Alderson Broaddus

PHILIPPI, W.Va. - The Davis and Elkins College Softball team picked up a doubleheader sweep of rival Alderson Broaddus Tuesday evening defeating the Battlers 4-3 and 9-2 in Great Midwest Athletic Conference play.

In game one, the Senators took the lead as Allie Lapallo helped her own cause with an RBI groundout to the right side allowing Rhetta Persinger to score from third.

The lead would stay at 1-0 while Lapallo held the Battlers scoreless in her outing.

Alyssa Cairns tripled the Senators lead in the sixth inning with a two-run homerun to left center as Kelsie Millner scored on the play.

Rylie Anderson would score on a Sydney Turner single later in the sixth inning, capping of the Senators scoring in game one.

Alderson Broaddus would threaten in the seventh, scoring three runs on Sara Tobin, with only one run earned, but Lapallo would re-enter to close out the game.

Lapallo picked up her fourth win of the season, tossing 6.1 innings, scattering three hits while striking out four batters.

In game two, Cairns started off the scoring with a homerun to left field, giving D&E a 1-0 lead. The Senators would double their lead later in the inning when Brittany Wade capitalized on a throwing error to score.

Turner would make it 3-0 for the visitors in the third inning, as her sacrifice fly to centerfield allowed Wade to score her second run of the game.

Alderson Broaddus would answer back with two unearned runs in the bottom of the fourth, but that would be all that Victoria Krystynak would allow.

Krystynak tossed all seven innings, allowing just the two runs on four hits and two walks, while striking out five.

Cairns would score in the fifth inning, putting D&E up 4-2 on a double steal attempt that saw Persinger out on the play.

In the seventh, the Senators would add five insurance runs. Turner singled to center to bring home Cairns for the first run.

Morgan Tandarich then singled with the bases loaded to score Jade Allee.

Katie Manson capped off the game with a bases clearing double to left center that scored Kaitlyn Giffin, Amy Fincham and Tandarich.

Davis & Elkins will travel to Michigan to take on Hillsdale on Friday. First pitch is set for 3:30 p.m. in the doubleheader.
