Softball Drops Doubleheader at Hillsdale

HILLSDALE, Mich. – The Davis & Elkins College Softball team dropped its Great Midwest Athletic Conference doubleheader with Hillsdale College on Friday, falling 2-0 and 7-2 to the Chargers.

In game one, the Senators were held to one hit by Hillsdale, who used a two-RBI single in the second to score the only runs of the game.

Alyssa Cairns had the only hit for D&E. Rhetta Persinger and Sydney Turner each had a pair of walks in the game.

In the circle, Allie Lapallo tossed all six innings, giving up the two runs on six hits. Lapallo had two strikeouts in the loss.

In game two, the Senators bats came alive in the fourth inning. However, Hillsdale had already jumped out to a 3-0 lead with a run in the second and two more runs in the third.

Kelsie Millner put the Senators on the scoreboard with a homerun to left field on her first pitch in the at bat.

Later in the inning, Persinger doubled to left, scoring Cairns.

Hillsdale would go on to add four more runs in the sixth inning to secure defeat for the Senators.

Millner and Persinger both finished with two hits in the game.

Victoria Krystynak picked up the loss, tossing four innings, allowing three runs on three hits and four walks.

The Senators doubleheader with Findlay scheduled for Saturday was postponed due to weather. Davis & Elkins is set to return to action on Tuesday, traveling to Walsh to take on the Cavaliers. First pitch is set for 3 p.m. in the G-MAC battle.
