Softball Drops Doubleheader at Lenoir-Rhyne

HICKORY, N.C. – The Davis & Elkins College Softball team fell to Lenoir-Rhyne University in both games of a doubleheader Thursday afternoon, wrapping up the Senators four-day spring break roadtrip.
 
The Senators dropped game one 16-1 before falling in game two 6-1.
 
Aside from an Allie Lapallo homerun in the second inning, Davis & Elkins was unable to put any runs on the scoreboard in game one against the Bears, being held to just two hits in the contest.
 
Lenoir-Rhyne jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning via a homerun to take the lead. After Lapallo's solo homerun in the top of the second, the hosts jumped out to a commanding lead with 10 runs in the second inning.
 
The Bears would add three more runs in the fourth.
 
Lapallo picked up the loss, allowing five earned runs in an inning of work. Katelyn Cobb also pitched, allowing two earned runs in three innings of work.
 
In game two, the fell behind again by three runs after the first inning.
 
After a scoreless second, the Senators scored a run in the third on Alyssa Cairns double to left center, scoring Jordan Crawford.
 
Lenoir-Rhyne would answer back with one in the third and two in the fourth.
 
Victoria Krystynak picked up the loss, allowing six runs on nine hits in three innings of work.
 
Jade Allee tossed three scoreless innings in relief, allowing just two hits.
 
The Senators will now have almost a week off before returning to action on Wednesday, traveling to Glenville State. The Senators will face the Pioneers in a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m.
