GLENVILLE, W.Va. – The Davis & Elkins College Softball team dropped its non-conference doubleheader with Glenville State Thursday afternoon, falling 6-2 and 5-1 on the road to the Pioneers.
The Senators held the lead only once on Thursday, as
Jordan Crawford started the scoring with a solo homerun to left in the first inning of game one.
The Pioneers tied the game up in the bottom half of the inning with an RBI base hit.
After a scoreless second inning, the Senators fell behind 6-1 after a 5-run inning from the hosts. The Pioneers started their scoring with a bases loaded bunt that scored a run, followed by consecutive RBI singles. The inning would also include a sacrifice fly and a run scored on a throwing error.
D&E would get one run back in the sixth inning from a
Brittany Wade RBI single that scored
Alyssa Cairns.
Allie Lapallo picked up the loss, allowing all six runs, five earned, on six hits in six innings of work. Lapallo did have eight strikeouts in the game.
In game two, the Senators fell behind early on a solo homerun from the Pioneers in the first.
Davis & Elkins would pick up its only run of the game with a
Kelsie Millner RBI single in the third that scored
Katie Manson.
After scoreless innings in the fourth and fifth, Glenville State would jump back in front with four runs in the sixth, including two RBI singles and a bases loaded walk.
The Senators were not able to answer in the top of the seventh.
Victoria Krystynak picked up the loss, going 5.1 innings, allowing four runs on a walk and four hits. Krystynak had two strikeouts.
Katelyn Cobb tossed the other two outs, allowing a run on two hits and a walk.
Davis & Elkins will return to action on Wednesday, March 21, as Concord is set to make the trip to Joni Smith Field for the Senators home opener. First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
