ANDERSON, S.C. – The Davis & Elkins College Softball team fell to Anderson University in both games of a doubleheader Wednesday evening, snapping the Senators four-game win streak.
The Senators were shutout in game one, falling 8-0. In game two, Davis & Elkins fell to Anderson 9-4.
Davis & Elkins was unable to put any runs on the scoreboard in game one against the Trojans, being held to just three hits in the contest.
The game remained tied until the fourth inning when the hosts scored one to take the lead.
Davis & Elkins would fall even further behind in the fifth inning, as Anderson scored five runs and the Trojans would go on to add two more in the sixth to trigger the run-rule victory.
Allie Lapallo picked up the loss, going 4.1 innings, allowing two earned runs on eight hits, while striking out five.
In game two, the Senators jumped out to an early lead in the top of the first with
Jordan Crawford scoring on a ball in play from
Kelsie Millner.
Later in the inning, Millner would score on a bases-loaded walk, but the Senators would be unable to add any more runs.
In the second inning, the Senators added to their lead when Millner doubled home
Katie Manson, making it 3-0 for the Senators.
However, the Trojans would answer back in the third with three runs and then scored three more in the fourth before adding two in the fifth and one in the sixth. Runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth inning all came from home runs against.
Morgan Tandarich would pick up a pinch-hit homerun in the seventh for D&E, capping of the scoring in the game.
Jade Allee picked up the loss, going three innings, allowing six runs on nine hits.
Victoria Krystynak pitched the other three innings, allowing three runs on four hits.
The Senators will wrap up their spring break trip on Thursday with a trip back into North Carolina to take on Lenoir-Rhyne University. First pitch is set for 2 p.m. in Hickory.
