LAURINBURG, N.C. – The Davis & Elkins College Softball team earned a pair of shutout victories over St. Andrew's University Monday afternoon to open up the Senators Spring Break Road Trip.
Allie Lapallo gave the Senators the advantage in game one, tossing a four-hitter while striking out three to earn her first shutout of the season.
The Senators were held scoreless in the game into the fifth inning where Davis & Elkins scored all four of their runs in the contest.
Brittany Wade doubled home the first two runs for the Senators, scoring
Kelsie Millner and
Alyssa Cairns.
Wade would then score on
Alexis Smith's single to center and Smith would cross the plate on
Katie Manson's double to right, finishing the scoring for the contest.
Cairns led the way for D&E with three hits. Lapallo also had two hits in the game.
Overall, nine different Senators had a hit in the contest.
In game two,
Jade Allee stepped up and tossed another gem for the Senators in the circle.
Allee went all seven innings, also allowing only four hits while striking out three.
Manson gave the Senators the lead with her first homerun of the season in the third, hitting a solo shot to left field.
D&E extended its lead in the fourth with
Rhetta Persinger getting on second with a double to lead off the inning. After Allee pinch ran and stole third, she scored on a sacrifice fly to double the lead.
Persinger finished the game 2-for-2 at the plate. Allee also had three total stolen bases in the contest as a pinch runner.
Millner would also finish with a pair of hits in the game.
Davis & Elkins will return to action on Tuesday, as the Senators take on Fayetteville State in a doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. in the doubleheader.
