WHEELING, W.Va. – The Davis & Elkins Men's Lacrosse team fall to Wheeling Jesuit 21-4 Saturday afternoon in Great Midwest Athletic Conference action.
The Senators gave up seven straight goals in the first seven minutes of the contest against the in-state rival and were unable to recover, losing their seventh straight to begin the season.
Kyle Durec put the Senators on the scoresheet with his first of two goals in the contest at the 7:20 mark of the first half.
After a Wheeling Jesuit goal,
Matthew Dyck scored with 2:45 left in the first for his only goal of the contest.
The hosts would score on both sides of the quarter break to go up 10-2.
Ian Nelson, playing in his first game of the season for the Senators would then score the Senators third goal of the game.
Wheeling would add two more goals in the first half, taking a 12-3 lead into the break.
Durec started off the third with his second goal of the game, but that would be the final tally for the Senators.
Defensively, D&E held Wheeling Jesuit without a goal until 5:14 remaining in the third, but the hosts would add one more in the quarter and seven in the fourth to end the contest with nine unanswered.
The Senators were outshot 53-21 in the game and had 21 turnovers. Davis & Elkins lost the faceoff battle 22-7.
Davis & Elkins will now set their sights on another conference match, this time against #12 Lake Erie College on April 3. The match is set for a 12:00 p.m. in Painesville, Ohio.
