ELKINS – The Davis & Elkins College Women's Lacrosse team dropped its non-conference contest with West Virginia Wesleyan College 21-5 Monday night at Nuttall Field.
The Senators fell behind early as the visitors jumped out to a 4-0 lead in less than seven minutes.
Davis & Elkins got on the scoresheet with
Samantha Cozzolino's second goal of the season with an unassisted effort.
Wesleyan responded with four more goals before the Senators cut out three of the following four goals, bringing the deficit to 9-4.
Cozzolino scored her second goal of the game on another unassisted effort just passed halfway through the first half.
Tonisha Washington grabbed the Senators third goal on an unassisted effort 86 seconds later.
After a goal from the visitors, Washington scored her second goal of the game with 7:59 remaining in the first half.
With the deficit cut to five, Wesleyan scored five straight goals to take a 14-4 lead into the break.
Coming out of the break, the visitors scored three straight before
Gabby Fagan scored her fifth goal of the season on a free position shot.
The Bobcats would score the final four goals of the game.
Surelys Baez made five saves in the first half.
Ebele De La Bay Coffie made two saves in the second half.
Cozzolino led the Senators with four ground balls in the game.
Savannah Stanford finished with a team-high two draw controls.
The Senators will return to action on Friday against the University of Findlay. The game is set for a 1 p.m. faceoff at Nuttall Field.
