ELKINS – The Davis & Elkins College Women's Lacrosse team fell to Walsh University 17-5 Sunday afternoon at Nuttall Field in Great Midwest Athletic Conference play.
The Senators fell behind early, as the visitors scored three goals in the first seven minutes to take the lead.
Davis & Elkins would answer back with two of the next three goals, starting with
Tonisha Washington's goal at 18:05 on an assist from
Sonja Skinner.
Gabby Fagan would then score a little over two minutes later on an unassisted effort.
The two-goal deficit would be as close as the Senators would get, as Walsh answered with the next 12 goals, including eight in the first half to take a 12-2 lead into the break.
The Senators would pick up some momentum midway through the second, with
Gabby Fagan's second goal of the game on a free-position attempt.
Fagan would then complete her hat trick seven minutes later, scoring on another free position attempt.
Fagan also finished with three draw controls and two ground balls.
Kathleen Shaw would then finish off the scoring for the Senators with her fourth goal of the season with 1:34 remaining.
Walsh would add its final goal with two seconds remaining.
Surelys Baez made 18 saves in the game and also shared the team high for ground balls with six.
Casey Johnson also had six ground balls and led the team with three caused turnovers.
The Senators will return to action on Monday with a non-conference battle against West Virginia Wesleyan. The game is set for a 7 p.m. start at Nuttall Field.
