CANTON, Ohio – The Davis & Elkins College Men's Tennis team fell to Walsh University 8-1 Saturday afternoon in Great Midwest Athletic Conference play at the North Canton Racquet Club.
The Senators fell behind early in doubles play, losing all three matches, despite some close games at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles.
Obert Matthew Mulyadi and
Jacob Bowman had the tightest battle in doubles, falling 8-6 as they pushed Filipp Kulynych and Guilherme Carneiro nearly the distance in the No. 2 match.
Andrew Shand and
Tristram Spitsnaugle had a tight match at No. 1 doubles as well, but eventually fell to Vasily Vidmanov and Rodrigo Garcia 8-4.
In singles play, Shand we get the upper hand to win the only point for the Senators in the match. The freshman dominated the first set over Kulynych, winning 6-1. Shand would finish off the victory in the No. 2 singles match 6-4.
Spitsnaugle found himself in an extremely tight battle at No. 3 singles, needing a tiebreaker to settle the first set. Spitsnaugle would fall 7-5 in the tiebreaker to lose set one 7-6 overall. He would fall 6-1 in set two.
Mulyadi would win several games in his No. 1 match, but fell to Vidmanov 6-2, 6-3.
The Senators will jump back into non-conference action on Wednesday, as the Senators host Salem at noon at the Thomas Tennis Center.
