FAIRMONT, W.Va. – The Davis & Elkins College Men's Lacrosse team fell in a second-half comeback by Ohio Valley, losing 13-9 in a Great Midwest Athletic Conference battle held in at the East-West Stadium.
The Senators took a 7-3 lead into the halftime break of Saturday's game, which was originally scheduled to be in Vienna, but was moved due to unplayable conditions due to this week's snow storm.
However, the hosts in Ohio Valley would make a big charge that included eight consecutive goals to take the lead in the third quarter and the Senators were unable to recover.
Matt O'Dwyer scored three of his four goals and
Matthew Dyck added two of his three goals for the Senators in the first half, helping D&E go up 7-2 with the addition of goals from
Haydn Sitler and
Kyle Durec.
However, Ohio Valley would grab their third goal right before halftime and that would spark the comeback for the Fighting Scots.
The Senators were unable to generate much offense in the third quarter, as Ohio Valley took control and score five goals to take an 8-7 lead.
Davis & Elkins would give up two more goals to Ohio Valley to start the fourth quarter before O'Dwyer could add his fourth goal.
The Fighting Scots would score twice more before Dyck answered with five minutes left, but the Senators were unable to overcome the three-goal deficit, allowing one more in the final minutes.
Luke Norcross played all 60 minutes in goal, making 12 saves for the Senators.
Davis & Elkins will return to action on Thursday, as the Senators host Wilmington (DE). The game is set for a 1 p.m. faceoff at Nuttall Field.
