CHARLESTON, W.Va. - The Davis & Elkins College Men's Tennis team fell to the University of Findlay 7-2 Friday afternoon in Great Midwest Athletic Conference action at the Charleston Indoor Tennis Center.
The Senators fell behind 3-0 after doubles play in the match which was moved to Charleston from Elkins due to the snowy conditions on campus.
Two doubles pairings for the Senators fell by scores of 8-4.
Andrew Shand and
Tristram Spitsnaugle fell by the 8-4 score at No. 1 doubles to Carlos Blanco and Nicholas Kopylec.
In No. 2 doubles,
Obert Matthew Mulyadi and
Jacob Bowman dropped their match 8-4 to Jorge Barnuevo and Ivaylo Slavov.
In singles play, Mulyadi and Shand both picked up victories in their respective matches at No. 1 and No. 2.
Mulyadi won his opening set 6-3 to Kopylec but dropped the second set 6-0. In the third set tiebreaker, Mulyadi needed extra points to clinch the victory, eventually winning 11-9.
Shand did not need a third set in his match, picking up his first victory in the No. 2 position with a 7-5, 6-4 victory over Barnuevo.
Spitsnaugle had the closest match in the defeats for the Senators in singles action, falling 6-3, 6-2 to Blanco.
The Senators will be back in action on Saturday, as they travel to Canton, Ohio to take on Walsh University. The match is set for a noon start against the Cavaliers.
