BUCKHANNON, W.Va. – The Davis & Elkins College Men's Tennis team fell in its non-conference match against West Virginia Wesleyan on Monday.
The Senators adjusted their doubles lineup due to an injury, causing
Andrew Shand and
Tristram Spitsnaugle to play up at No. 1 doubles and the duo played a tight match, falling 8-4 to Harry Simaioforidis and Ramon Rodriguez.
In singles action,
Obert Matthew Mulyadi had the tightest battle, falling in a third-set tiebreaker. Mulyadi won the opening set 6-3 over Rodriguez but dropped set two 6-2. In the tiebreaker, the D&E freshman fell 12-10.
Shand had a strong first set in singles action, playing up at No. 2 singles for the first time for the Senators. Shand fell to Maycon Sanots Diaz 6-4 in the opening set, but dropped set two 6-0.
Spitsnaugle had the only other tight battle for the Senators in the match. In No. 3 singles, Spitsnaugle fell 6-3 in set one, but dropped set two 6-1.
The Senators will return to action on Friday, taking on Findlay in Great Midwest Athletic Conference action. Davis & Elkins will face the Oilers on the road in Charleston, West Virginia with first serve set for 12 p.m.
