MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The Davis & Elkins College Men's Tennis team fell in a heartbreaker to Cedarville Saturday afternoon dropping the match 5-4 in the final match of the day.
 
The Senators fell behind in doubles 2-1 to start the match, despite two close battles in the defeats for the Senators.
 
Andrew Shand and Tristram Spitsnaugle picked up a convincing win at the No. 2 doubles match with 8-1 victory over Philip Brumbaugh and Ryan Cvammen.
 
The closest doubles match, which also proved to be a key deciding point, came in No. 3 doubles where Mason Schoonover and Jacob Bowman fell to Jeremy Hoover and Chris Tsibouris 9-7.
 
The other defeat for the Senators in doubles came as Obert Matthew Mulyadi and Alejandro Meseguer fell 8-4 to Alex Totten and Jonathan Class.
 
In singles action, things started off strong for the Senators, as Shand and Spitsnaugle picked up wins in singles play.
 
Shand clinched the first point with a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Brumbaugh. Spitsnaugle then gave the Senators a 3-2 lead with a 6-0, 6-3 victory.
 
Mulyadi extended the lead as he won his singles match over Totten with a 6-2, 6-3 victory.
 
However, Cedarville would claw back into the match with a win at the No. 5 match, as Bowman fell 6-2, 6-1.
 
The Senators and Yellow Jackets would need third-set tiebreakers in the final two matches to be decided. The first of the two to fall came at No. 2 where Meseguer fell to Class 6-2, 3-6, 6-2.
 
With the match tied at 3-3, Schoonover and Tsibouris would also go to a tiebreaker. Schoonover would dop set one 6-2 but won 6-0 in set two. However, Tsibouris defeated Schoonover 6-3 to win the final point and clinch the match.
 
Davis & Elkins will return to action on Sunday, as the Senators take on Hillsdale. The match is set for a 9 a.m. start in Morgantown.
