Softball Splits Doubleheader with Norfolk State

NORFOLK, Va. – The Davis & Elkins College Softball team split with Norfolk State University on Sunday, as the Senators won game one 3-1 in 11 innings before the hosts took game two 12-1.
 
Allie Lapallo pitched a gem for the Senators in game one, going the distance, allowing one unearned run on seven hits with nine strikeouts.
 
The Senators had multiple chances to take the lead early, stranding a runner at third and stranding the bases loaded. For the game, the Senators left 10 runners on base.
 
However, Lapallo limited the hosts as well, allowing the Senators to eventually plate three runs in the 11th inning.
 
Alyssa Cairns put the Senators in the lead and broke the scoreless tie with a two-RBI single to right center that scored Kelsie Millner and Jordan Crawford.
 
In game two, the Senators took an early lead, as Brittany Wade singled up the middle to score Millner from third.
 
Rhetta Persinger then added an insurance run with a sacrifice fly to score Cairns.
 
Norfolk State would get one run back in the bottom of the inning, but the Senators held on for the win.
 
In the bottom of the first, things turned for the hosts, as they scored nine runs to take a commanding lead.
 
Norfolk State would add three more runs in the second inning to cap the scoring for the contest.
 
Victoria Krystynak picked up the loss, allowing three earned runs on three hits and a walk. She had one strikeout.
 
Jade Allee had an effective outing in relief, tossing 2.1 scoreless innings, allowing just one hit and a walk.
 
The Senators will return to action on Monday, March 5, traveling to North Carolina to take on St. Andrews for a doubleheader.
