CALIFORNIA, Pa. – The Davis & Elkins College Men's Basketball team fell to the California University of Pennsylvania 63-55 Tuesday night in a non-conference battle at the Convocation Center.
Trevor English led the way for the Senators with 20 points in the losing effort. English was nearly perfect from the field, going 10-for-11 in field goal attempts.
The junior also led the Senators with eight rebounds and was tied for the team highs in steals (2) and blocks (1).
English helped the Senators to an early lead, scoring 10 of the first 18 points for D&E as the visitors jumped out to an 18-11 lead.
However, the hosts hit a pair of three pointers and a jumper to take the lead with an 8-0 run in 77 seconds.
Davis & Elkins would lead once more as
Edmund Parker hit a three pointer to put the Senators ahead 21-19, but California would jump back ahead on the next offensive trip and the Senators never led again in the game.
The Senators overcame a 10-point deficit in the second half, tying the game at 51 with 8:36 remaining, but the Vulcans pulled away as the Senators were held scoreless for the next 5:45.
Parker joined English in double figures, finishing with 11 points. Parker also had six rebounds, two steals and two assists.
Logan Phillips was second on the team with seven rebounds in the game. Phillips also led the Senators with three assists.
Marcus Friend had nine points and
Dominic Scott-Robinson finished with eight points.
The Senators will return to action on Saturday, as Davis & Elkins travels to Ohio to open Great Midwest Athletic Conference play at Lake Erie College. The Senators will tip off with the Storm at 3 p.m. in Painesville.
