CLARION, Pa. – The Davis & Elkins College Men's Basketball team picked up their first win of the season on Tuesday in a come-from-behind victory to defeat Clarion University 81-76 on the road in non-conference play.
Less than six minutes in, the Senators found themselves behind the hosts 21-8 as Clarion was hot from behind the arc with four made three pointers.
The Senators were unable to close any ground on Clarion for most of the first half but were able to cut the deficit to 10 at the break with
Donte Doleman scoring 11 first-half points and
Trevor English recording seven points and seven rebounds.
After back-and-forth action for the opening eight minutes of the second half,
Guillaume Zbinden hit a three pointer with 11:36 remaining to start the rally.
James Rider and English both followed it up with baskets to cut the deficit to four points just after halfway.
Clarion managed to cling to a small lead until
Erkam Kiris sank both of his free throws with 3:51 remaining, tying the game at 71.
Marcus Friend then gave the Senators the lead with four-straight points.
Clarion would lead once more, going up 76-75 with 51 seconds remaining, but Davis & Elkins scored six-straight points to end the contest.
English was tied for the lead by all scorers in the game with 18 points. He led all players with 15 rebounds, recording a double-double. English also had two assists and a block.
Friend finished with 12 points off the bench and had five rebounds, two assists and two steals.
Doleman finished with 11 points to have three Senators finish in double figures. Doleman also had a steal and an assist to go along with three rebounds.
Davis & Elkins will be off for a week before returning to action at California University of Pennsylvania on November 27. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m. against the Vulcans.
