ELKINS – The Davis & Elkins College Women's Basketball team lost in a heartbreaker Saturday afternoon to Cedarville in Great Midwest Athletic Conference play, falling in the final seconds 89-88 at the McDonnell Center.
After trailing for a majority of the second and third quarters, the Senators pulled even with the visitors and traded the lead with Cedarville multiple times over the final 10 minutes.
With a two point-lead, the Senators were unable to contest Baylee Bennett's 3-point effort with 10 seconds left and Cedarville took the lead.
The Senators had a chance, as
Aliyah Dukes' 3-point shot hit off the front of the iron as time expired.
Davis & Elkins jumped out to a 22-16 lead after 10 minutes, but Cedarville doubled up the Senators 24-12 in the second quarter to take a 40-34 lead into the break.
Dukes led all scorers with 28 points in the contest. The senior was 8-of-13 from the field. She also collected three rebounds and dished out two assists.
Sydney Turner,
Colleena Burdock and
Jamiyah Johnson also finished in double figures. Turner connected of five three pointers for all 15 of her points to go along with three rebounds and a steal.
Burdock and Johnson each had 10 points, with Burdock sharing for a team high five assists.
Jay Kilpatrick and
Kali Wilburn also had five assists each.
The Senators will hit the road for their next two games, with the first coming on Thursday at Kentucky Wesleyan. Tipoff is set for 6:30 p.m. EST.
