PAINESVILLE, Ohio –
Tim Staerz and
Simon Hestad each scored twice on Saturday to propel the Davis & Elkins College Men's Soccer team to a 5-0 victory over Lake Erie College Saturday afternoon in Great Midwest Athletic Conference play.
The shutout victory is the fourth consecutive for the Senators in G-MAC play, outscoring opponents 15-0 during the run.
Staerz broke the deadlock in the 40th minute, finishing home a deflected ball in the box from
Carlos Cruza.
Less than a minute later, Staerz doubled his tally, this time connecting on a cross into the box from
Niklas Rasch-Hegelund.
Coming out of halftime, Rasch-Hegelund netted his first goal since 2015, as the defender scored off a ball from
Pablo Salvador Lopez and then Cruza. Rasch-Hegelund's goal in the 60th minute capped a goal and an assist day, matching his previous career totals.
90 seconds after coming onto the field as a sub in the second half, Hestad got into the scoring action in the 80th minute on a ball from Staerz.
Hestad doubled his total for the day and finished the scoring for the Senators with his third goal of the year in the 87th minute, knocking home a deflection off the post.
The Senators controlled the game from the start, outshooting Lake Erie 22-4 in the contest.
Hedi Mehnaoui picked up his fourth win of the year in goal, stopping just one shot on target from the Storm.
Davis & Elkins will return to action on Thursday, as the Senators return home to face Findlay. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. at Nuttall Field.
