Senators pick up G-MAC win at Ohio Valley

VIENNA, W.Va. - The Davis & Elkins Volleyball Team defeated conference opponent Ohio Valley by winning in 4 sets on Tuesday night.
 
In the first set, the Senators fell behind early, but gradually cut into the Fighting Scots' lead. After capitalizing on the opponent's service error and on a kill by Lillie Mueller, the Senators tied the game at 22-all, and had the first lead since the early stages of the game from a Kaitlyn LaCour Service Ace. Ohio Valley then tied the game at 23-all, but DE took two points to win the set.
 
In the second set, the Senators took an early lead, before Ohio Valley launched a comeback, tying the game at 13-13. The Fighting Scots then broke the deadlock and took 5 points to make the game 15-18. Then, D&E took control of the set by winning 10 out of 12 points to win the set.
 
In the third set, D&E had an early lead, but Ohio Valley cut back the deficit and took the lead at 8-7. The Senators and Fighting Scots went back and forth throughout the set, until the Ohio Valley pulled away after scoring 8 out of 11 points to win the set 25-20.
 
In the fourth set, the Senators raced to a 4-0 lead, and gradually increased their lead throughout the set. Ohio Valley attempted to mount a comeback by trimming the lead to 1 to 24-23, but D&E held on to the set and the match by winning the decisive match point.
 
The Senators had more aces and blocks than its opponent: D&E had 9 blocks compared to OVU's 2; and twelve aces to six.
 
LaCour led the team in kills with 11, followed by Raleighanne Weaver and Sasha Johnson, who each had ten kills.
 
LaCour also led the team in aces with five, followed by Zoe Craig with three, and Madi Gil with two.
 
Johnson had five blocks, followed by Weaver and Anna Gallup, who each had four blocks.
 
Craig set her season high with 43 assists, Kelly Smith had two and Lillie Mueller with one.
 
Smith and Brianna Hoffmann each led the team with 12 digs, followed by Craig with 8.
 
The Senators return to action on Thursday at 7 pm against Malone at home.
