XENIA, Ohio – The Davis & Elkins College Softball team fell to Trevecca Nazarene 5-0 on Wednesday in the opening round of the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Tournament.
The Senators fell behind early, as the Trojans led off with a triple and later scored to take a 1-0 lead.
Davis & Elkins had a strong chance to tie the game up or take the lead in the fourth after the Senators loaded the bases with one out by way of a walk by
Danielle Norton and singles by
Brittany Wade and
Rhetta Persinger.
However, groundouts by
Sydney Turner and
Morgan Tandarich ended the inning.
The Senators fell behind big in the fifth when Trevecca plated three runs on an RBI single and a two-run triple.
Trevecca extended its lead in the sixth inning with another run.
Alyssa Cairns led the Senators with two hits in the game. Wade also reached twice with a hit and a walk.
Allie Lapallo picked up the loss, tossing 4.2 innings, allowing four runs on nine hits.
The Senators will play the winner of the Malone-Cedarville game in their second game of the tournament, needing a win to avoid elimination.
