Softball Sweeps West Virginia Tech

ELKINS – The Davis & Elkins College Softball team picked up a pair of wins to sweep West Virginia Tech on Wednesday. The Senators won 6-5 in eight innings before winning 10-2 in six innings.
 
The Senators started the scoring early in game one, as Sydney Turner reached on a fielding error that allowed Danielle Norton to score. Morgan Tandarich then drew a bases loaded walk to put the Senators up 2-0 after one inning.
 
In the second inning, Norton double down the left field line, scoring Alyssa Cairns and Kelsie Millner.
 
Brittany Wade then batted Norton home with a two-run homerun later in the second inning to put the Senators up 6-0.
 
However, the visitors would score four in the fourth inning and then added a run in the fifth and another run in the seventh to tie the game at six.
 
In the eighth inning, Cairns won the game with a RBI single to left to score Samantha Smith to win the game.
 
Allie Lapallo picked up the win in game one, tossing 4.2 innings, allowing just three hits with no runs and four strikeouts.
 
In game two, Katie Manson started the scoring in the second inning with a sacrifice fly to score Turner.
 
In the third, Norton doubled home Millner and then scored on Wade's second homerun of the day.
 
Later in the inning, Turner scored on a wild pitch and then Smith scored on a ball put in play by Cairns.
 
After the Golden Bears scored a run in the fourth and the fifth to cut the deficit to 6-2, Cairns hit a sacrifice fly to score Smith.
 
In the sixth inning, Manson ended the game with a bases-clearing double to left center, scoring Smith, Turner and Kaitlyn Giffin to trigger the run-rule victory.
 
Victoria Krystynak tossed a complete game victory, allowing one earned run with three strikeouts.
 
The Senators will return to action on Friday with the first two games of a G-MAC series against Ohio Valley. The games are set for a 3 p.m. start at Joni Smith Field.
