Senators Sweep AB To Earn 3-1 Series Victory

ELKINS – The Davis & Elkins College Softball team earned a season series victory over Alderson Broaddus after sweeping the G-MAC rival with 2-1 and 6-5 victories on Tuesday.

In game one, the Senators jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first with Danielle Norton's two-RBI double to right center that scored Alyssa Cairns and Kelsie Millner.

It would be the only scoring for the Senators in the game. Cairns led the Senators with three hits, while Amy Fincham picked up her first multi-hit game as a Senator, going 2-for-3 at the plate.

Allie Lapallo picked up the complete game victory, allowing just one run on a homerun in the fourth. Lapallo had five strikeouts in the game.

In game two it would be the Visitors who would strike first, as the Battlers scored two in the top of the first inning.

However, the Senators answered back with four in the bottom half of the inning, starting with Rhetta Persinger's bases loaded RBI single to score Cairns.

Sydney Turner then drew a four pitch walk to tie the game, as Norton crossed the plate.

Morgan Tandarich then capitalized on the opportunity for the Senators to take the lead with a double to left center, scoring Wade and Persinger.

Samantha Smith extended the Senators lead in the third inning with a sacrifice fly to right center, scoring Turner from third.

Alderson Broaddus would answer back with a run in the fifth and two in the sixth, tying the game at 5.

However, Danielle Norton led off the seventh with a double for the Senators. After being pinch run for by Kaitlyn Giffin, the winning run moved to third on a wild pitch. Wade then ripped a single to right center to score Giffin and give the Senators a walk off win.

Victoria Krystynak picked up the win, tossing 1.1 innings of scoreless relief, allowing two hits while striking out one.

The Senators will return to action on Wednesday as they host West Virginia Tech for the last non-conference games of the season. The doubleheader is set for a 3 p.m. start at Joni Smith Field.
