ELKINS – The Davis & Elkins College Men's Lacrosse team fell in heartbreaking fashion to the University of Alabama in Huntsville 7-6 on Friday night in the midst of heavy downpours and windy conditions at Nuttall Field.
The Senators overcame a slow start and tied the game at 6 with 23 seconds remaining, only to see the visitors score with 1.8 seconds left to win the game.
Davis & Elkins started slow, as the Charges scored the opening four goals, all coming in the first quarter.
Connor Shantz started the scoring for the Senators in the second quarter, scoring 2ith 9:31 remaining.
Heavy downpours followed soon after and the game went into the break at 4-1.
Alabama-Huntsville expanded its lead to 5-1 midway through the third quarter, but D&E started its comeback soon after.
Mike Tokar scored his goal in a 3-point night with 6:28 remaining in the third.
Patrick Schneck followed with his 11
th goal of the year less than two minutes later.
Following a goal form the Chargers to start the fourth,
Matthew Dyck scored and
Michael Holstein followed with another goal with 3:17 left in the game.
Dyck would add his second of the game to tie it up at 6.
Noah Jessey led the Senators with five ground balls and four caused turnovers.
Zach Cotoni and Matt O'Dywer had four ground balls each.
Holstein finished with three caused turnovers.
Kyle Seago finished with eight saves in the game, allowing seven goals. He also had two ground balls.
The Senators will return to action on Sunday with another home contest at Nuttall Field. The Senators will take on Lake Erie at 1 p.m.
