GLENVILLE, W.Va. – The Davis & Elkins College Softball team split a doubleheader with Salem International on Wednesday at the Sue Morris Sports Complex, winning 10-0 before falling 7-5.
The Senators piled on runs with the long ball, scoring all 10 runs in game one via the homerun.
Danielle Norton started the scoring in the first with a 3-run homerun to right center in the top of the first.
Two batters later,
Rhetta Persinger hit a 2-run homerun down the left field line.
In the second inning,
Brittany Wade hit a 3-run homerun to left, extending the Senators' lead to 8-0.
Alyssa Cairns finished the scoring in the fifth inning with another homerun to left, making it 10-0 with the 2-run shot.
Allie Lapallo earned the win, tossing three shutout innings, striking out two.
Ryn Boelter also pitched, playing two innings to help chip in to the shutout.
In game two, the Senators were hit hard in the first inning, as Salem International scored six runs.
The Senators cut the deficit in the middle innings. Norton had a RBI single in the third, scoring Cairns.
In the fourth, Katie Manso had a 2-RBI double down the left field line, scoring
Samantha Smith and
Sydney Turner.
Kelsie Millner then had a sacrifice fly to score Manson.
In the fifth, Smith made it a 5-6 game with a single scoring Persinger.
However, the Tigers would score in the fifth via a homerun to wrap the scoring.
Davis & Elkins will return to action this weekend with a trip to Owensboro, Kentucky to take on Kentucky Wesleyan in Great Midwest Athletic Conference play.
