Women's Basketball Knocks Off KWC To Advance To Semis

OWENSBORO, Ky. – The Davis & Elkins College Women's Basketball team earned a spot in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Semifinals with a 78-65 win over Kentucky Wesleyan inside Seidman Gymnasium.

Stephanie Wooten backed up a First Team All-Conference selection announced by the conference this morning with 37 points and nine assists, leading the No. 5 Seed Senators (19-9, 7-7 G-MAC) to the victory.

Wooten topped her previous season high on Thursday, besting a 36-point outing, also against Kentucky Wesleyan in mid-January.

The Senators took the lead at the 5:32 mark of the first half with one of Wooten's four three pointers, and D&E never looked back, opening a 10-point advantage by the end of the first quarter.

Davis & Elkins expanded on its lead, taking a 45-31 advantage to the break. Kentucky Wesleyan (19-8, 8-6 G-MAC) would cut the deficit to 11 in the second half, but D&E worked it back to as much as 20, holding a double-digit lead the rest of the way.

Kali Wilburn and Aliyah Dukes joined Wooten in double figures, scoring 12 points each. Both players had two assists and a steal, while Wilburn also had three rebounds and a block. Dukes also had a rebound in 16 minutes off the bench.

Sydney Turner and Alicia Roth shared the team lead for rebounds, grabbing six apiece in the game.

The Senators will face top seed and host Ursuline College in the semifinals on Friday. The game is set for a 5 p.m. start.
