WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Davis & Elkins College Women's Lacrosse team fell at the University of the District of Columbia 6-3 Sunday afternoon in the Senators 2017 season opener.
The Firebirds jumped out to an early lead over the Senators with a goal in the fourth minute. After a scoreless 22-minute period of the first half, the hosts would double their advantage with a goal at the 4:02 mark.
Gabby Fagan would cut the deficit back to one with her first goal of the season with just under two minutes remaining in the first half.
Much like the start of the game, DC would get an early goal in the second half to retake a two-goal advantage.
After DC scored again to go up 4-1,
Kathleen Shaw scored on the extra-woman opportunity for the freshman's first goal as a Senator.
After DC scored two more goals,
Desma Feather also picked up her first goal as a Senator, as the freshman found the back of the net with 39 seconds left.
Lydia Eichhorst made seven saves for the Senators in the game.
Davis & Elkins will be back in action on March 10, playing in the first of two games in Alabama on the team's spring break trip, taking on Alabama-Huntsville. The game is set for a 6 p.m. start.
