ELKINS - The Davis & Elkins College Women's Basketball team fell to Malone University 77-72 on Thursday in Great Midwest Athletic Conference play.
The Senators jumped out to a 19-10 lead after the opening 10 minutes, but the visitors and second-ranked team in the conference erased the deficit with a 24-11 second quarter, taking a 34-30 lead into the break.
Malone maintained their gap over the third quarter, but the Senators cut back into the deficit and took the lead with 2:36 left in the fourth quarter on a jumper by 
Stephanie Wooten.
The teams traded the lead on the next three possessions, but Malone took the lead for good with a three pointer at 1:51 to go up 73-71.
Wooten led theSenators in scoring, finishing with 16 points. The senior is now just seven points from tying Cindy Stinger's all-time point mark at D&E of 1,702.
Wooten also had six rebounds and six assists on the night.
Aliyah Dukes (13) and 
Sydney Turner (10) joined Wooten in double figures. Turner had seven rebounds and two steals. Dukes finished with four assists.
Kali Wilburn led the Senators with eight rebounds.
The Senators will return to action on Saturday with Senior Day. D&E will tip off with Ursuline at 2 p.m., following Senior Day festivities.
