ELKINS – The Davis & Elkins College Men's Basketball team's comeback bid fell short on Saturday, as the Senators dropped a tight battle with Lake Erie College 79-72.
The Senators jumped out to an early 6-0 lead against the Storm and held the lead up until the 10:13 mark of the half when Lake Erie hit a three to go ahead 17-16.
The Senators were unable to keep pace with Lake Erie for the remainder of the first half, as Lake Erie opened up a 10-point advantage heading into the break.
The deficit grew even bigger in the second half, as Lake Erie went up by as much as 15, but the Senators cut the deficit to just 2 points in less than six minutes, largely to the play of
Trevor English,
Edmund Parker and
Kevin Simpson.
However, the Senators would be unable to close the gap any further as Lake Erie kept the Senators behind over the final eight minutes.
English led the Senators with 19 points and eight rebounds in the game.
Simpson finished with 13 points, while Parker and
Jordan McElveen each had 11 points in the game.
Davis & Elkins will return to action on Tuesday with a trip up to Michigan, facing Hillsdale College at 5 p.m. in the final contest before the holiday break.
