NORTH CANTON, Ohio – The Davis & Elkins College Men's Basketball team fell to Walsh University 67-57 Thursday night on the road in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference opener.
The Senators trailed by as much as 22 in the second half, but made a serious comeback effort, cutting the lead to just six points with 4:16 to go via a 19-3 run.
Rickenjee Bellevue led the way for the Senators in the comeback bid, scoring a double-double in the second half alone with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Bellevue finished the game with 14 points and 16 rebounds.
Bellevue also led the Senators with four steals in the game and had D&E's only block.
Jordan McElveen finished in double figures as well, scoring 16 points.
The Senators, who started the year hot from behind the arc, leading the nation in 3-point field goal percentage, were just 4-of-18 from deep against the Cavaliers.
Davis & Elkins was also just 5-of-17 from the free-throw line in the game.
The Senators will return to action on Saturday, as they complete the opening weekend of the conference season with a trip to Malone. Tipoff is set for 1 p.m.
