ELKINS – The Davis & Elkins College Volleyball team beat Ohio Valley 3-1 on Friday night to close out the regular season and senior night with a victory over the in-state rival.
In the first set, the Senators fell to an early deficit but were able to bounce back and win the set 25-21.
In the second set, the Senators overcame a 10-5 deficit by going on a 12-5 run to take the lead. The Fighting Scots responded by scoring six straight points to take a 22-19 lead. D&E responded by taking six out of a possible seven points to win the set 25-23.
In the third set, OVU had an early lead and held on to win the set 26-24 even though D&E tied the game multiple times throughout the set.
In the fourth set, the Senators controlled the game and won 25-17.
Kaitlyn LaCour led the team in kills with 15, followed by
Sasha Johnson with 14, and
Anna Gallup with 11.
Lillie Mueller and
Kelly Smith both had a career high in aces with five. Johnson had one.
Raleighanne Weaver had five blocks, followed by Gallup with four, and Johnson with three.
Zoe Craig had a season high of 48 assists, followed by Smith with three, and
Briana Hoffmann with two.
Smith led the team with 15 digs, followed by Mueller with 10, and Craig with eight.
Since the Senators finished fourth in the East Division, they will play at Findlay in the quarterfinals next Thursday. The time of game is to be determined.
