ELKINS- Women's Soccer defeated rival Alderson Broaddus 2-1 on Tuesday afternoon to wrap up the season.
In their final collegiate game in D&E uniform, seniors
Brianna Rackey and
Tina Wulin contributed to the opening goal. In the 19th minute,
Asheli Freed whipped a ball from a corner. The ball landed on Rackey's head, who headed it to fellow senior Wulin, who then headed the ball into the net.
Lauren Hill played a key role in D&E defense and offense. Hill had three saves while playing in goal in the first half, and played as a forward in the second half. Hill had several shot attempts that were close on goal but finally broke through in the 63rd minute, when she kicked the ball into the net after capitalizing on a loss ball. This was Hill's first collegiate goal since her natural position is goalkeeper.
Shelby Riddle scored a penalty kick goal in the 69
th minute after a foul in the penalty box by Davis & Elkins was called on a Battlers' corner kick.
The Senators outshot the Battlers thirteen to twelve, and had more shots on goal than AB (twelve to six).
Hill, Wulin each had two shots on goal.
Bailey Aab,
Abby Alexa and Rackey each had a shot on goal.
Freed and Rackey each had an assist.
With the win in the regular season finale, the Senators season comes to a close as Davis & Elkins was unable to qualify for the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Tournament.
