NASHVILLE – The Davis & Elkins College Men's Basketball team withstood a surge from Trevecca Nazarene and then pulled away for 78-74 victory in overtime to return to winning ways and take over second place in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference standings.
The Senators (9-10, 4-1 G-MAC) held a slight advantage over the Trojans (6-14, 2-3 G-MAC) for most the game, but the hosts made a late surge to force overtime.
Kevin Simpson gave the Senators the lead, but Trevecca answered back with a three to take over the lead early in overtime.
Rickenjee Bellevue then gave the Senators the lead and D&E never looked back, outscoring the Trojans the rest of the way.
Kevin Bracy-Davis led the Senators over 45 minutes with 22 points and 11 rebounds, his eighth double-double. The senior also had two blocks and three steals, playing in 44 minutes for the Senators.
Trevor English and
Donte Doleman also finished in double figures with 11 and 10 points, respectively. English also finished with eight rebounds and Doleman had four boards.
Bellevue led the Senators on the boards with 16 rebounds, including 10 offensive boards. The Senators finished with 24 offensive boards, which led to 17 second-chance points, while the hosts finished with nine.
The Senators will return to action next Saturday as Davis & Elkins hosts Alderson Broaddus. The Senators are scheduled for a tipoff at 4:00 p.m. in the McDonnell Center.
