The Basics
How it Happened:

Belmont Abbey was able to score single runs in the bottom of the first and second innings to take an early 2-0 lead on the Senators.

The Senators got on the board in the top of the third inning when a Taylor Norton single plated Chelsie Stover.

Belmont Abbey answered back in the bottom of the fourth inning. Jena Reisenauer homored to center field to again give the Crusaders a two run lead.

The Senators were able to score two runs in the seventh. Allie Lapallo singled to center field driving in two runs to tie the game. The Crusaders were unable to score in the bottom half of the innings.

In international tie breaker in the top of the eighth, Samantha Smith got to second following a throwing error on a sacrifice bunt. Katlyn Huffman – the runner placed on second to start the inning came around to score.

Allie Lapallo earned the win for D&E, giving up 3 runs (2 earned) and striking out two in the eight inning game.
Game Two:

The Senators struck first scoring two runs in the top of the first inning. Kayla Whoolery singled to start the game off and then came around to score on an infield ground out. Alyssa Cairns then beat out an infield single which allowed Danielle Norton to score.

Belmont Abbey came out swinging in the bottom half of the inning and was able to score nine runs on eight hits, a walk and a hit batter. Jena Reigenauer hit her second home run of the day in the inning.

Belmont Abbey was able to score one more run in the bottom of the fourth inning to secure the 10-2 victory.

Victoria Krystynak took the loss for the Senators – giving up four runs without recording an out. Sara Tobin came on in relief, surrendering five runs on five hits and walk. Taylor Norton threw the last 3.2 innings, shutting down the Crusader offense allowing just one run on four hits with four strikeouts.
Senator Synopsis:
"We need to do a better job in the second game", said head coach Kimberly Stiles. "I was happy we were able to win the first game in extra innings because we struggled with that two weeks ago, but we needed to carry the momentum in the second game of the double header.

The Senators take on Clarion and Virginia Union tomorrow at 12:00 and 2:00 in Salem, VA.
