How it Happened:
- The Senators and Rams swapped scoreless frames through four innings. Katelyn Norton led off the top of the fifth inning with a walk, advancing to second on a sacrifice bunt and then coming around to score off a Chelsie Stover RBI single to break the game open.
- D&E scored five runs in the top of the fifth on four hits before plating three runs in the seventh inning. Taylor Norton blasted a two run home run in the inning.
- Allie Lapallo went the distance for the Senators in the circle, yielding a single hit on seven strikeouts and two walks.
- Taylor Norton, Danielle Norton, Katelyn Norton and Alyssa Cairns all had two hits for the Senators.
Game Two:

- Score: 4-5
- Records: Davis & Elkins (1-1) – Winston Salem State (1-5)
- Location: Winston Salem, North Carolina
How it Happened:
- Kayla Whoolery led off the game with a single and scored on Alyssa Cairn's single to give the Senators a 1-0 lead.
- The Rams answered back with a solo home run in the bottom of the inning of the bat of Mercedes Hargett and would then score four unanswered runs in the second and third innings on two hits, four walks and a pair of Senators errors.
- D&E refused to quit, battling back to score two runs in the fifth, pulling the Senators within a run of the Rams. Alyssa Cairns doubled in the inning, driving home a run and then scored on a passed ball.
- Victoria Krystynak took the loss for the Senators, giving up five runs (three earned) on three hits and three walks in 2.1 innings of work. Sara Tobin came on in relief and threw 3.2 inning, with three walks, one hit and two strikeouts.
- Danielle Norton and Alyssa Cairns both had three hits for the Senators.
Senator Synopsis:
"It was a solid opening day for us," D&E head coach Kimberly Stiles said. "There is definitely room for improvement. We left a lot of runners on base in the second game and that hurt us, but we also had some very good performances today from a number of players – both upperclassmen performing as expected and freshmen jumping right in and getting their jobs done.
What's Next:
The Senators take on Shaw University tomorrow at 1:00 PM in a double header before heading to Fayetteville State on Sunday.
