CALIFORNIA, Pa. – The Senators Men's Basketball team dropped a heartbreaker in their season opener on Monday, falling on the road in overtime to California (PA) 100-92.
The Senators crawled back from as much as 14 points behind in the second half and
Rickenjee Bellevue hit a layup to tie the game at 79 with just nine seconds left to send the game to overtime.
However, the Vulcans used a 7-0 run to start the overtime period and the Senators were unable to climb out of the hole.
Kevin Bracy-Davis led the scoring and rebounding efforts on the night for the Senators, finishing with 35 points and 11 rebounds to record a double-double.
Kevin Simpson was the only other Senator in double figures in the points column, finishing with 10 points.
Bellevue recorded 10 rebounds in the game and was one point shy of a double-double, finishing with nine points in the game.
Jordan Mcelveen and
Teron Owens also had nine points each in the contest.
In the first half, the Senators were able to open up a lead as big as nine points, but California used a late run to take a 3-point lead into the break.
The Senators shot just 35 percent from the field in the game, but capitalized on 27 second-chance points and 20 points off turnovers to stay with the hosts, who were 49 percent from the field in the contest.
Davis & Elkins will return to action on Wednesday with a trip to West Liberty to take on the Hilltoppers. The tip is set for 7:30 p.m.
